For some silly and totally misleading reason, the average empty-headed and noisy anorak seems to think that recorded music became the driving force behind the creation of 'Radio Caroline'. It was not. But equal, if not of more importance than the real reasons for the completed stage of 1964 broadcasting from an anchored ship, was the reason or rather, the originating force behind the need to go offshore. The power to censor, that is to control, was, and still is, in the hands of the British Crown, a corporation sole. But carrying out the mandates of the British Crown was the General Post Office.
