As previously reported in this and in our companion Blog, British offshore broadcasting began in 1927 with the BBC, just after it had been licensed as a Crown corporation to take over from the original commercial BBC operation which held an exclusive right to broadcast within the United Kingdom.
The authority granted to the original commercial BBC came from the British Crown through its Post Office. Its power of monopoly over all forms of mass communications can be traced back to 1660, and the dubious establishment of a new monarchy which came into existence following an Act of Oblivion that forbade political discussion of anything that happened prior to that date. The proceeding years were dubbed the 'Interregnum', and they pretended to make the claim that the moment King Charles was executed in 1649, his son who was later dubbed 'King Charles II' (he was never crowned in Scotland), continued the monarchy. That was not just an untruth, it was a physical impossibility with any foundation in fact. After the reign of Charles II came an equally murky period when the next king in line was pushed off his throne and had to flee when the invading Dutch Army of William and Mary (whose exploits are still recalled in Northern Ireland by referring to this invader as 'King Billy'), stormed ashore. Calling it a "Glorious" or "Bloodless Revolution" is also a lie. This Dutch Army of King Billy killed its foes to conquer the British Isles. But then, English kids were taught in school that the year 1066 was the last time that a successful invasion had taken place. Of course the Scots don't believe that because they were constantly invaded by the English and their foreign friends. But history is full of political lies and British history is one big lie. When it comes to broadcasting history, we only have to look at the output of people like Keith Skues; Ray Clark and Paul Rusling to realize that the lies and deceit continue to this day. In fact, the entire history of the British monarchy after 1649 is one of concealment, lies, distortions and censorship. This is the aura surrounding the birth of the original British Broadcasting Company Ltd which was followed by the British Broadcasting Corporation. It is also the story behind the story about the creation of British offshore broadcasting which was inaugurated by the 'second' BBC.
